HOPE: a product of the Holy Spirit

HOPE for the brokenhearted - Week 5

Hi lovely friends.

I have exciting NEWS!

God gave us a new addition to the Hope for the Brokenhearted series. God gave me these words recently to share with an extremely special person that I love very much, my sister. She agreed with me that it should be shared with you all to give you new view of hope. It speaks of hope in a different way than I have heard it. Grab a seat, and let's dig in.

As I was praying for my dear sister, as she has suffered a great loss recently and experiencing intense sorrow, God directed me to write about hope to her. I was hesitant to dare go that direction when someone I love is feeling no hope really. It feels like a delicate place to approach, speaking of any type of good thing when someone is distraught with grief. He directed me to Romans 15:13 once again. At first glance of the verse, I assumed it was a prayer that God had intended for me to seek in depth. However, He began to focus my attention to the latter part of the verse more than the beginning.

Romans 15:13 NKJV

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,

that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I found myself drawn to the words “you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” After a good bit of research, meditation and prayer; God moved me forward to explore a new concept. As I gained more knowledge and spent ample time with the Holy Spirit, a revelation came to me. (Revelation happens when God reveals things about Himself and His Word to you. If you spend any time in prayer and reading the Word of God, you most likely get a lot of revelation from God.)

My revelation was - hope (confident expectation of God’s goodness) does not arise in us through any part of our own effort or those around us. Those feelings that we get that soothe our soul sometimes and give us a reason to move forward at that moment are not man-made.

True hope, that of God, does not come from earth, woman or man. No energy or attempt on our part can truly produce hope. (As I continue to use the word “hope” in this writing, consider it to only mean the hope defined as the hope of God.) Encouraging words and inspiring ideas coming from others may cause a temporary relief from despair, but it is not hope.

Hope is a product of the power of the Holy Spirit only.

This is the revelation that I received. I took it into serious consideration in the beginning. I was not completely convinced that the hope we feel sometimes is not at least occasionally from earth and people. It felt so bold of me, the mere messenger, to state that hope only comes from God. The Holy Spirit did not give up his mission to reveal this amazing truth to me. Words continued to pour on to my paper as He led me on. Please continue to read to understand how I came to completely believe that hope only comes from God, none other.

Romans 15:13 NKJV

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,

that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

How can you abound in hope? What does God’s Word say? You can abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will supply you with hope. He will fill you with it.

When you experience anguish and heartbreak, hope feels nearly impossible to obtain. The mind and emotions are flooded with sorrow, discontentment and bewilderment. Comfort does not come easy. You want to have hope. You are desperate for it. It just can’t be produced by human might or power. People may be used by the Holy Spirit for delivery for the onset, however it only comes from Him.

When you feel hope rise in you, even just a glimmer of hope, recognize that you were just supplied with it from the Holy Spirit. He brought this hope into existence in you. It was generated by Him, not you or any influence around you. As you acknowledge the actual source of the hope you experience, you can value it so much more. You will begin to regard it with high esteem. Hope’s worth will explode knowing that it is a gift from God through the Holy Spirit.

To perceive hope, the hope of God, in its true state changes everything. You have been adorned with the grace of hope from your very Creator. Gratitude swells in you over the love of your Father God has for you to grant you hope. You feel gratification in your soul from a new spark of expectancy for good things to come.

Your thanksgiving and praise to God for any ounce of hope will bring you a sense of purpose; in that your God has something good for you. He put hope inside of you through the power of the Holy Spirit. If you are receiving hope from God, it must mean there is a plan for you by Him.

Although in deep sorrow or distress, hope may not appear to come very often or it all. However, if you can try to identify the smallest of assurance that God is full of goodness – you have genuinely encountered true hope. We don’t need to seek hope as much as recognize it when it appears. Hope is a gift to you from the power of the Holy Spirit.

For those of you hurting in despair and perhaps feeling lack of hope, I have a new prayer for you dear ones.

Dear Father God, our Creator,

Open the eyes of those hurting to Your hope that is being delivered by the power of the Holy Spirit. Let them see and feel any glimpse of Your hope God, so that they may find some relief from this anguish. It is by the actual power of the Holy Spirit that hope comes to us. Make hope evident and obvious to them so that they may receive it as a gift from you. I pray this based on your promise God in Romans 15:13.

In the mighty name of Jesus I pray.

Amen.

Meditation: I will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

from Romans 15:13 NKJV
