Forgive.

I said, “Forgive, I need to forgive.” while disheartened from the discourteous words.
“Forgive” became a strain on my mind and helpless heart.
Then
God said to me, “You are not the one doing the forgiving.”
You are not the one acting in forgiveness.
I am
in you.
I am mercy inside you.
My mercy flows easily
in you to release it to others.
What a relief!
My efforts to forgive are weak and disastrous.
The offense keeps creeping back into my thoughts.
I know longer need to use this failing human heart to forgive.
My repeated thoughts of the offense may leave now.
God forgives the offender.
God, the author of forgiveness,
the definition of mercy
has taken this distress from me
and wrapped it in His mercy.
I say in the name of Jesus, “I forgive.”
Romans 5:5 NKJV
Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
