Peace in the midst of pain
Peace in the midst of pain. What a concept? Right? Well we are going to approach it with God at the lead.
When there was a time that I faced a lot of pain one day (focusing entirely on my flesh), I pondered on how to receive peace at such a time. In a place of physical distress, it seems impossible to find peace of mind. The flesh is relentless in it's moaning for assistance.
I reached out to my Creator requesting a way for me to somehow and in someway find even a small serving of tranquility. The answer was not what I expected. My Creator responded, "Declare it." Well I certainly know how to declare and announce something. I often declare Philippians 4:13 when at work and not feeling well.
Philippians 4:13 NKJV
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Let me once again explain that I am not in a state of constant or chronic pain as many people close to me endure. There is no answer to the cause of my physical pain as of yet. I do receive some alleviation from it with medication much of the time. So when I describe my discomfort, I refer to when it is at it's height.
I greatly sympathize for others that suffer throughout the day and night, as well as anyone with pain. My prayers have become more intense and bold for these people, friends and family.
John 14:27 NIV
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.
These words were spoken to the twelve disciples after the Last Supper, and after Jesus washed the disciple's feet. This was near the time of his upcoming arrest.
The disciples had a lot of trouble and adversity coming upon them with the arrest fast approaching. Jesus wanted to assure them that he has given them peace. This same peace that supported the disciples throughout their tribulations and physical pain belong to us now.
What God is asking of us is to take the words of Jesus and profess it; even while in physical pain. Lay claim to the peace of Jesus. He gave it to you. Although your body throbs with distress, you can make a declaration.
You are declaring what is the truth of God the Father coming from the actual mouth of Jesus. Assert to your flesh that you own the peace of God. Your spirit, heart and soul are not weak, and they exclaim the truth. Jesus gave you peace.
Your flesh may still lack stillness. However, the rest of your being possesses peace. This mental awareness can help diminish the strong hold of the pain over your spirit.
If you believe in God and His Word, you cannot deny that His promises are true. Jesus said, "Peace I leave you." The reality is Jesus gave you peace, plain and simple. Therefore as you experience pain in your body, with your thoughts overwhelmed by the suffering flesh, peace is still in you. The peace of God, given to you by Jesus, exists.
You simply need to acknowledge it, respect it and profess it. Tell your brain, "I have the peace of God." Declarations like this will bring your thought life to a Biblical truth and promise from Jesus. It may not take away the discomfort, but it will give your mind rest.
Meditate on this verse while hurting. Speak it aloud. Respect it. Allow it to have power.
John 14:27 NIV
Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.
Love you all,
Truly
